I was keen on opening a business in a diverse community that has demonstrated a strong level of support for small businesses.
Livingston’s Little Learners We offer a unique child care experience for children ages 2.5-6yrs old. Livingston’s Little Learners provides a home-like environment for children to learn, socialize, and journey through their early childhood. The residential setting and park like property allows children to feel welcome and safe so they may thrive academically and emotionally.
While attending Seton Hall University to earn my Master’s degree in Education I was mentored by a preschool Director. She inspired me to research and explore opportunities in daycare/preschool ownership. With the support and encouragement of family and friends we found the Livingston location and began the journey to success! With my clear vision to provide a home like environment and the highest level of care and education to children with working parents, success was inevitable.
Twenty-six years ago I advertised my grand opening in the local paper, a children’s magazine, and with flyers around town. Advertising was expensive so I attempted grassroots methods to get the word out such as phone calls, emails to family and friends, and a sign out front (which was quickly removed due to town ordinances). The most reliable method to attract new customers has been word of mouth referrals, positive reviews on Facebook and other social media, and participating in township wide events that keep our business name out there.
Balancing finances and staying motivated to forge forward with my dream/vision.
My students smiles, individual progress and personal success motivates and inspires me to be better tomorrow than I was today. Positive parent reviews on social media
Last year, July 2023, we celebrated 25 years in business. We hosted an open house event at the school and welcomed over 200 alumni and their families. Former students who attended ranged in age from 5-28years old. I was so humbled by their love and support of me and my business.
Customer/student satisfaction and success.
Finding and retaining excellent staff members.
Maintaining a balance between my work and my family.
Go for it! First 3 years are tough as you travel through the ups and downs but once you have established your business plan and map to success you must stay the course! Hire individuals who are qualified, passionate and committed.
Success is defined differently for everyone. An entrepreneur must have a business plan and vision for the future but must also set realistic, achievable short term goals. Meeting these short term goals weekly/monthly will energize and motivate you to stay focused on the big picture, a thriving business.
Owning and operating a business that provides high quality care and education to children of working parents. Creating an indisputable, stellar reputation in my community that my preschool is the best choice for young learners.
